Most ConservativeThe most widely used standard: your rent should be no more than 30% of your gross monthly income.
40x Rule
Landlord StandardMany landlords require your annual income to be at least 40x the monthly rent — so we use that as the ceiling.
50% Rule
Maximum FlexibilityFor tighter budgets or those with lower incomes, renting up to 50% of monthly income may be necessary.
